Where is ataturk buried

The Turkish Nation, which had , casualties during the Gallipolis Battles, knew how to protect their honor against the Entente States. Mustafa Kemal's command to his soldiers, "I am not ordering you to attack, I am ordering you to die! On April 1, , he was promoted to the rank of Major General. After short-term duties in Damascus and Aleppo, he came to Istanbul in He became ill after this trip. He went to Vienna and Karlsbad for treatment.

On August 15, , he returned to Aleppo as the Commander of the 7th Army. At this front, he undertook successful defensive battles against the British Forces. On October 31, , one day after the signing of the Moudros Armistice, he was appointed as the Commander of the Lightning Armies Group.

Upon the abolishment of this army, on November 13, , he came to Istanbul and commenced duties at the Ministry of War. In the Amasya Proclamation, published on June 22, , he announced, "The independence of the country will be secured by the determination and decisiveness of the nation" and he summoned the Sivas Congress to a meeting.

The Erzurum Congress convened between July 23 - August 7, and the Sivas Congress September 4 - 11, , to identify the direction of the independence movement. He was welcomed with excitement in Ankara on December 27, With the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly on April 23, , a significant step was taken on the path to founding the Turkish Republic.

The Turkish Grand National Assembly promulgated the necessary laws for the successful conclusion of the War of Independence and ensured the proper implementation of these laws. The Turkish War of Independence started on May 15, with the shooting of the first bullet, during the Greek invasion of İzmir.

Initially, militia forces called "Kuvay-i Milliye" National Forces fought against the victors of World War I who planned to divide the Ottoman territory among them under the cover of the Sevres Treaty signed on August 10, The Turkish Grand National Assembly established a regular army and united the National Forces under this army, which concluded the Turkish War of Independence in victory. Under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal, the important stages of the Turkish War of Independence are as follows:.

The Road of Lions is a meter long pedestrian entrance to Anitkabir. There are 12 lions located on both sides reflecting the ancient Hittite style. Lions stand for power and peace. The paving stones on the road has five centimeters of gaps in between to make visitors walk slowly to the Ceremonial Plaza respecting the challenge of Ataturk while establishing a new state for the Turkish People.

The Road of Lions end by the Ceremonial Plaza which is a ten thousand square meter area. It can accommodate around fifteen thousand people and decorated with three hundred seventy three Turkish carpet and rug patterns.

The Hall of Honor stands on the north of the Ceremonial Plaza. It is forty two meters to fifty eight meters in size and seventeen meters high. There is a forty tons of monolith representing the sarcophagus of Ataturk which is located underneath. Chamber of the tomb is built in an octagonal plan which is also known as the Turkish star and frequently seen in the Seljukian and Ottoman architecture. The Peace Park surrounds the Mausoleum and named after the famous phrase of Ataturk; peace at home, peace in the world.

More than a hundred of varieties of plants and trees are decorating the park. Twenty five countries donated plants and trees to the Peace Park which houses more than fifty thousand decorative plants.

There are ten towers placed symmetrical in Anitkabir. Tower of Independence has a relief of a young man with a sword and an eagle behind him. Eagle stands for power and independence in Seljukian Mythology while the sword stand for the Turkish Nations struggle for independence. There is a group of female statues in front of the tower dedicated to the women of Anatolia to respect their efforts during the establishment of our country. The Freedom Tower has an angel inside with a paper which stand for freedom and declaration of the freedom of Turkish Nation.

The statue group in front of the Freedom Tower has three male statues. As you might expect, the museum does so in singing the highest praises for the man. Explanatory texts in the museum generally come in Turkish and OK English translations. The Hall of Honour above the museum is indeed of monumental dimensions, though in its rather Germanic simplicity and restrained decoration with some oriental elements in the design it is actually quite stylish.

Soldiers in full ceremonial dress and white helmets guard the gates. Many visitors, esp. It's worth witnessing the changing of the guards, which involves a lot of goose-stepping, loud stomping about and yelling of ceremonial orders — and small kids mocking the goosesteps!

But since the Turks are so child-loving, nobody seems to bear them any grudge for this breach of respectful behaviour …. The glorification of his heroic life and achievements gets pretty extreme here, and is politically heavily tilted.

You have to wonder what Turkish kids take home from this … It's also an indication why tolerance and openness towards the darker chapters of the country's history especially with regard to Armenia are not particularly developed here — if this film is in any way representative of the country's general historical perception. Leading off to the side of the main complex is the street of lions, named so after the string of lion sculptures that lines it.

At its end there are two groups of oversized human statues, one a male group, the other female separated by the street — which is quite in line with the general segregation of the sexes in Turkish society. The middle statue in the female group is holding her hand over her eyes in a way that invites misinterpretation it's supposed to stand for mourning, but looks more like a gesture of embarrassment.

Location: on a hill high over the city, a few miles south-west of the "centre" … well, as much as Ankara has a centre.
