How old is my stihl chainsaw

I finally found it! It is on the rope side of the engine by the muffler. It is under the handle that comes up from the rope side. I had to spray some brake cleaner on it and wipe it and it showed up. And yes it is like the other two saws in "Dot Matrix". I am glad to get that done, we have a theif on the mountain that has already broke into a neighbors place and stole their chainsaw, blower and weedeater.

We are going out of town for a few days and when we get back I am going to hide the vehicles inside the garage and catch me a crook! Thanks for your help. I was taking inventory for my homeowner's policy and I was going absolutely Guano Loco trying to find the serial number on my MS Now the only problem is trying to read the damned thing!!! What, is that a 2 or a 3? DW Welcome to the Forestry Forum. Glad you found info needed, but FYI.. The serial number of one I know was built prior to its purchase on Nov 2, is Since this one is 8 and yours is 9 digits, I'd say yours is considerably later.

I also have 's with the serial numbers and one being metal tag and the latter being plastic tag. I still use it. That was a lot of money for a 50cc saw 25 plus years ago but a very inexpensive saw per piece of wood cut.

A quality purchase will often prove to be a better value in the long run. When using the parts manual, and there is a serial number reference, drop the first digit. The first digit is ONLY a country of origin code, not part of the serial number.

OP's serial number is The first 2, is a code made in USA. Code 1, is Germany, code 3 is Brazil. Beyond that, I have no clue If I recall right, the was made in the early to mid 's and the PRO came in a few years later when the decomp valve became popular.

But with many Stihl saws having carried this info only on a sticker — all too often unreadable or missing — telling these essential specs is not always easy. These numbers actually tell a lot about your saw, and in this article, I will give you the tools to decode them.

This article gives quick lookup tools for both the part and the serial numbers, which tell you the likely saw model, the manufacturing year and the manufacturing location. Below, you find instructions on where to find the serial and part numbers on your Stihl and the two lookup tools I programmed.

These small programs incorporate majority of the open information available and give you the best guesses for the saw model as well as the manufacturing year and site that you can get without Stihl manufacturer data.

The serial number on most Stihl chainsaws is on the top side of the saw body, right of the muffler see image. The number is stamped onto a flat metal surface on the motor housing or crankcase, but may also be dot-printed into plastic in some newer models.

The serial number is purely numeric and consists of 4 to 9 digits depending on the saw age. This lookup machine estimates the manufacturing year and location of a Stihl chainsaw from the serial number. The 70's are white. The 80's are black and the 90's till present are orange. We started using double digits in Those serial numbers start with So a model would be Hope this helps.
